This one is not one of my favorites, however I do like the cover photograph as it just screams 1960s.

While browsing the vintage sewing pattern wiki, I also discovered that this pattern was in the Vogue Pattern Book February/March 1969.

I'm making this one. Just as soon as I find the right fabric. Oh, one more thing. No tassels. That's just weird.

Interesting to note that the pattern cover states "Vogue American Designer" but the label shown on the back of the envelope states "Vogue Americana".

Love the blouse and wrap jacket on this one. I even managed to find this pattern in my size. Now the question is...will I actually sew it or not.

Misses' evening dress and jacket. Semi-fitted and flared dress, in slightly below mid-knee or evening length, has front v-neckline, cutaway armholes, princess seaming and back zipper closing. Loose fitting jacket has pointed collar, blouson bodice pleated and gathered into waistband extending to tie ends and full length sleeves pleated into band cuffs with purchased cuff link openings.

I'm always amazed at the detailed descriptions of these "vintage" Vogue patterns. For instance, until I read typed this description I hadn't looked closely at the sleeves cuffs, but sure enough, they are link cuffs held closed with cuff links.

Did you notice that this pattern is a "Vogue Americana"? I'm not sure when Vogue began and ended that line of patterns, but it certainly has a 70s bicentennial ring to it wouldn't you say?

Misses' jacket, pants and blouse. Semi-fitted, lined, below waist length jacket has notched collar, slightly extended shoulders, shoulder pads, side front and side back seams (no side seams) and side back pleats. Full length two-piece sleeves. Edgestitch trim. Slim, tapered pants have front tucked into waistband with belt carriers, mock fly front zipper closing and side front pockets. Loose fitting blouse has pointed convertible collar, one-piece yoke with forward shoulder seams, shoulder pads, side front button and thread loop closing and bodice front tucks. Full length sleeves with placket are pleated at cap and into buttoned cuffs. Pants and blouse have topstitching and edgestitching.

I'm not positive on the date of this pattern and I keep waffling between the late 1970s or the early 1980s. I can't remember for sure when those "waiter" jackets were popular. Anyone know for sure?

I've always been a fan of the Vogue Anne Klein designs. In fact, one of the first designer patterns I sewed was an Anne Klein design. It was a body suit with a full skirt with very, very deep double side slits. I wore that to death dancing the night away to the throbbing beat of the music in the discos. I still have that pattern and can see that I have yet to share it with you. Soon, very soon.

Then there was the fabulous Vogue 2671 jumpsuit. Another favorite of mine.

In the meantime, to this day I'm drawn to the Vogue Anne Klein patterns, even though my most recent one was a complete disaster. It was the coat from Vogue 1128. The end product makes me feel like the Stay Puft character in Ghostbusters. The story behind the disaster has yet to be posted on my sewing blog, but it will. Soon, very soon.

Misses' proportioned pants. Slim, tapered pants have zipper fly, pleated front, side front slanted pockets, back buttonhole pockets, flat fell seams and edgestitching.

This pattern has no copyright date printed on it, but I was able to locate it in a large Vogue pattern catalog from 1981. In fact, it was pictured right next to the Perry Ellis pattern I posted yesterday - Vogue 2490. The "proportioned" pants are height variations - short 5'3" and under, average 5' 4" to 5' 6", and tall 5' 7" to 5' 9".

Do pattern companies over these height proportioned patterns any longer? It seems that I run across a number of them from the 60s and 70s, but not so much after that.

This is one of the ten Vogue designer patterns I purchased the other day at the thrift shop. The first thing I did was check to see if it the label was still inside. Apparently DVF designs had labels that said "Diane Von Furstenberg for Vogue Patterns". I only know this from the label photo on the back cover as this pattern had been used and if the original owner had a label I'm certain it was added to the garment.

There's no copyright date on the pattern, but I'd place this as a late 70s design. It reminds me of the disco-era, with the mid-calf length and deep side slit, the strappy ankle ties, the dark hose and head piece.

Did any of you wear those spike heels with tiny ankle straps? What about the headpieces with netting or feathers? Or dresses with side slits to mid-thigh? I'm guilty - I wore those trends and thought I'd looked smokin' hot too.

You know, I think I still have a pair of those disco shoes buried in a closet. Someday I'll have to pull them out and share them with you.

So when was the last time you wrapped a large regtangler piece of fabric around your waist and called it a skirt?

According to the vintage pattern wiki, this was featured in Vogue Pattern Book June/July 1967.

Kind of looks like the "pillowcase" dresses that are so popular right now doesn't it? Only this one has those little details that kick it up a notch. This particular dress is even underlined!

One thing I like about these older patterns is that, even for an "easy to sew" design, the instructions are detailed with lots of illustrations.

This is such a mid-80s design - not only the straight shape of the dress with it's contrast trimmed mock wrap, but the use of the glitzy gold fabric styled with the dark hose, glitter shoes and gold jewelry. Just a bit over the edge wouldn't you say?

I had never seen this Versace Vogue pattern before, which is why, even though it's not my size, I purchased it when I discovered it at the thrift store. Interesting to note that the tie shown on the pants is actually part of the waistband.

Continuing with my posts of Vogue designer patterns I purchased at the thrift store is this uncut pattern by Pierre Balmain. The cover illustration of the dress showed some interesting lines which is why I decided to purchase it (well, that and the fact that it was only setting me back 75 cents).

The pattern doesn't have a copyright date, however I was able to date it by locating it in an old Vogue Pattern counter book from 1981.

Wrap, lined dress, below mid knee (at center back) or evening length, has very loose-fitting, blouson bodice, dropped shoulders, shoulder pads, yoke with forward shoulder seams, low armholes, pleated waist, straight skirt with shaped front hemline, belt and 3/4 sleeves with bias cuffs. Both have contrast bands.

An uncut Yves Saint Laurent pattern that I discovered in a local thrift shop. Actually this one was one of ten Vogue designer patterns from the late 1970s and early 1980s that I purchased there. The designers include Dian Von Furstenberg (but alas, not the infamous wrap dress pattern), Gianni Versace and Calvin Klein. I'm certain it was someone's pattern stash as the sizes were all on the smaller end and the styles were similar. I'll share them with you over the next two weeks.

This particular one screams mid-80s with the large shoulders and loose blouson fit, but as a fan of Yves Saint Laurent (and who isn't...) I had to bring it home with me.

Mini jumper has slightly shaped front and loose fitting back, front scooped neckline, buttoned shoulder band, fly front buttoned closing, patch pockets with flap and above elbow length sleeves. Front belt worn through carriers is buttoned to belt that is set in at back. Top stitch trim. A-line, mini skirt is darted into waistline. Straight-legged pants are darted into waistlinefoldback facing.

As usual yardage and instructions are included to underline all the garments. Was this standard with all vintage Vogue designer patterns?

I peeked at the instructions because I wasn't sure I wasn't sure what the description meant by "foldback facing" on the pants. The pants simply have a self-facing cut in one with the pants and turned inside along foldline.

It's always a treat to see how detailed the sewing instructions are. Even to the point of including step-by-step instructions to sew and turn the narrow belt loops.

Flared, semi circular skirt has waistband, pockets in forward side seams and side zipper closing. Topstitchng. Straight legged pants are pleated inot* waistband and have pockets in side seams. Single-layer square shawl has self-fringe. Purchased belt.

* Not too often one actually stumbles across a typo on the pattern envelopes, but this is one of those instances. The description reads inot rather than into.

Pleated shorts, above mid-knee, have button waistband, welt pockets, concealed stay and front zipper.

This top is identical to the Sewing Workshop Origami top that I sewed oh, seven or eight years ago. Even though I still own the Sewing Workshop pattern, when I came across this vintage Miyake Vogue pattern in a thrift store I couldn't resist adding it to my collection.

Very loose fitting, unlined coat, mid knee, has front and back cut in one with collar (wrong side may show) and lower sleeves, yoke and upper sleeves cut in one, pockets and topstitched hem. Full length sleeves. Very loose fitting shirt has standing collar, dropped shoulders, low armholes, pocket, shaped hem and long sleeves pleated into button cuffs. Slightly tapered pants have shaped waistband with tab and buckle, pleated waist and pockets and mock fly zipper.

Everyone has this one, right? I mean, it's been in the Vogue catalog since the mid 1980s - that's almost 15 years. I didn't purchase my copy until the early 1990s and sewed the coat soon afterwards. Five yards - that's how much fabric you're wearing when you wear this coat. The coat is long gone, but the pattern remains.

Very loose fitting pullover top has mock bands, yoke and sleeves cut-in-one, underarm openings, pocket, side slit and 7/8 sleeves. Narrow hem. Very loose fitting tapered pants have elastic waistband, dropped crotch, seam detail, right side welt pocket and stitched hems.

This pattern is how I first discovered Issey Miyake vogue sewing patterns. I was at a store that was closing, and they had their entire stock of discontinued Vogue patterns in a bin for $1. Out of curiosity, I began browsing the bin pulling out any pattern that looked interesting. And this was one of them.

The pants were never a draw for me, but the top and jacket - well that's another story. I purchased a deep purple wool gauze with the intention of sewing the jacket. However, both the fabric and the pattern reside in my sewing studio untouched. Maybe someday...

Loose fitting, lined, below hip jacket has extended shoulders, shoulder pads, mock upper welt, lower welt pockets, upper side panels (no side seams), button tab and belt, lower front extending to side back (no side seams), back hemline vent and long two-piece sleeves. Straight, wrap skirt, lower calf has button waistband and slanted pockets. Very loose fitting wrap top has button collar, extended shoulders, shoulder pads, low armholes, button front forming drape and long sleeves with button pleat Facings and hems are stitched in place.

In the eighties, when this pattern was released, I had not heard of Issey Miyake. I didn't follow the designer fashion trends, nor did I browse the Vogue designer pattern offerings. After all, most of those Vogue patterns were for "really advanced sewers" and way beyond my budget. Unless it was for a very special occasion, I stuck with McCall's, Simplicity and Butterick designs.

This particular Miyake pattern first came to my attention in the late 90s when I purchased a copy of More Power Sewing by Sandra Betzina.

The jacket is one of the samples in the book. I was intrigued by the front closure. The jacket itself it quite dated, but it's still fun to have this Miyake design in my collection.
