Simplicity 5571 c. 1973 Jacket, Mini-Skirt and Pants

Does anyone else remember those fabulous mini pattern catalogs that used to be available at the fabric stores? You know, the ones that featured 10-15 pages of full color photographs of the latest pattern releases?

While I didn't save all of mine (why would I? Who'd have thought I would want to look at them again 30 + years later!) I've been fortunate enough to find quite a few over the years.

As I was looking through the latest group that I acquired, I realized I had a number of these vintage patterns in my collection and thought it would be fun to share the company's sample version with the pattern envelope.

First up is from the April 1973 Simplicity fashion news leaflet - a blazer sewn from five different fabrics using Simplicity 5571. With a change in the roundness of the collar and a slightly less puffy sleeve, this could easily be sewn and worn today - 35 years later.

I wore that pattern to my Homecoming football game and dance in 1974. Jacket and pants of cocoa brown polyester (naturally). Big white chrysanthemem corsage from my guy at the time. Jacket and pants, complete with big legs and cuffs.

Thanks for sharing that! I love how these vintage patterns spark memories to the point where we not only remember the color of the garment but the fabric content.
